Kentucky Wesleyan College Expands Dual Credit Opportunities for High School Students

Owensboro, Ky. – Kentucky Wesleyan College is expanding access to college-level coursework for motivated high school students through Wesleyan Academy, its on-campus dual credit program. The program allows students to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously, providing a head start on their higher education journey.

Wesleyan Academy is open to qualified juniors and seniors who will take real college courses on the Kentucky Wesleyan campus, taught by the same faculty who instruct full-time college students. These courses adhere to the same academic standards as traditional on-campus classes and are fully integrated into Kentucky Wesleyan’s curriculum, offering students a robust preparation for future academic success.

“Wesleyan Academy is about more than earning credit early,” said Matthew Ruark, AVP of Enrollment Management at Kentucky Wesleyan College. “It is about helping students build confidence, independence, and momentum by experiencing college in an authentic setting, with the support they need to succeed.”

The program is designed for students planning to pursue a four-year degree who are prepared for college-level expectations and seeking a purposeful academic advantage. Wesleyan Academy prioritizes preparation over simply accelerating a student’s progress, aiming to equip them with the tools necessary for long-term success in higher education.

Students participating in Wesleyan Academy earn transferable college credit that directly applies to Kentucky Wesleyan degree programs and is designed to transfer smoothly to many other colleges and universities. The college offers structured academic pathways in fields such as biology, business administration, fine arts, chemistry, and teacher education, alongside individualized course options tailored to each student’s specific goals.

Beyond the academic benefits, Wesleyan Academy offers significant value. Tuition costs are substantially lower than standard college tuition rates. Eligible Kentucky students may qualify for the Kentucky Dual Credit Scholarship, administered by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA), which can help offset the cost of approved courses.

Students attending public, private, or homeschools in Daviess, Hancock, Ohio, McLean, and Henderson counties are encouraged to explore the opportunities offered through Wesleyan Academy. Interested families are advised to consult with their school counselors or College and Career Readiness teams, or to contact Kentucky Wesleyan College’s Office of Admissions for information regarding eligibility requirements, available pathways, and the application process.

Daviess County Public Schools students have a dedicated information session scheduled for February 18th, hosted by the district’s College and Career Readiness team. Registration for this event is being managed through individual high schools.

Kentucky Wesleyan College announced the opening of the enrollment period for Wesleyan Academy on February 10, 2026.
