NASCAR Spotter Shakeup: Keselowski, Stenhouse Jr. affected
Updated June 20, 2025
Brad Keselowski and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.will have different voices guiding them during the upcoming Pocono Cup race. According to NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass, several teams are making changes to their spotter lineups in both the cup and Truck Series.
TJ Majors is set to resume his duties spotting for Keselowski after recovering from a medical issue, Pockrass reported on X. Majors will also spot for Carson Kvapil and Matt Mills, who drives for BJ McLeod’s team.
Stenhouse will have Clayton Hughes as his new spotter, replacing Tab Boyd. The change comes after Boyd made controversial remarks during the Mexico City race weekend. In the Truck Series, Freddie Kraft is now spotting for Giovanni Ruggiero, taking over from Frank Kimmel II.
Majors, Keselowski’s longtime spotter, had been sidelined for about a month, with Todd Brewer filling in temporarily. While there has been no official confirmation from the team, Pockrass’s tweet indicates Majors is back in action for Keselowski, Kvapil, and Mills.
The change for Stenhouse follows public criticism of Boyd’s comments about Mexico City during a recent Cup race. Boyd’s current status is unclear, but Hughes, who previously worked with Martin Truex Jr., is now listed as the spotter for Stenhouse.
Kraft, known for spotting for Bubba Wallace in the Cup Series, will now also guide Ruggiero in the Truck Series, replacing Kimmel II, according to the updated rosters.
Brad Keselowski reflects on the Michigan Cup race
Keselowski offered an assessment after the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway. A pit road speeding penalty hampered his chances for a better finish. Keselowski told NBC:
“We had a realy good car. I felt like we had a top two or three car and just didn’t get to see it through.I’m really disappointed. We kind of crushed ourselves on pit road with the speeding penalty and then having to go around the 45 and the 71. Every time we pitted we would lose a lot of spots.”
Keselowski started 27th and moved up to 21st by the end of Stage 1. However, early pit stops and the speeding penalty dropped him to 25th by the end of Stage 2.
He recovered in the final stage to finish 10th, behind teammate Ryan Preece and ahead of Erik jones.
Keselowski acknowledged the car’s speed, despite the outcome. He noted that the pit crew wasn’t to blame, but the pit stall selection and the speeding call contributed to the team’s result.
“I’m not really sure on the speeding penalty. I felt I was way slow, so getting called fast didn’t really add up,”
Keselowski added that he still saw value in the top-10 finish despite the setbacks. All three RFK Racing drivers finished in the top 10, with Chris Buescher second behind Denny Hamlin, and Preece and Keselowski in ninth and tenth, respectively.
