Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, a two-time NBA champion, is expanding his portfolio. He has acquired a minority stake in Paris St-Germain (PSG), the reigning Champions League winners. This move signifies a strategic partnership with Qatar Sports investments (QSI), the majority owners of the French soccer club.
Durant’s role will include providing expertise as PSG plans to broaden its reach into basketball. QSI had earlier expressed interest in a European basketball league franchise, in collaboration with the NBA and FIBA.
The partnership will see Durant’s media and investment company,Boardroom, collaborate with PSG on various commercial, investment, and content initiatives. The NBA star is expected to support the club’s continued sports and business diversification and growth.
“It is an honor to partner with QSI and to be a shareholder of PSG, a club and a city that is deeply close to my heart,” Durant, a four-time olympic gold medalist, said. “This club has big plans and I look forward to being part of the next phase of growth and exploring new investment opportunities with QSI.”
Durant’s involvement with the 13-time French champions isn’t entirely new. He was previously linked through Arctos Partners, a minority shareholder. However, this investment marks Durant’s direct financial stake in the club.
The role of investor comes as Durant enjoys continued success. He recently appeared on Forbes’ 2025 list of highest-paid athletes. He previously secured two NBA titles with the Golden State Warriors and an Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
QSI’s acquisition of PSG in 2011 has fueled the club’s success, leading to 11 Ligue 1 titles and their recent Champions League victory over Inter Milan, 5-0.
What’s next
The partnership between Durant, Boardroom, and PSG signals a continued push for global expansion and diversification for both parties, with a focus on leveraging Durant’s brand and expertise to grow PSG’s presence in new markets and sports.
