Interviewer: Thank you for joining us today, Kevin. With over three decades of experience in wrestling coaching, can you share what initially drew you to this sport?
Kevin Elliott: Thank you for having me. Wrestling has always been a part of my life. I was introduced to the sport in high school, and I immediately fell in love with the discipline, the strategy, and the camaraderie among teammates. I saw coaching as a way to not only stay connected to the sport I love but also to impact young athletes’ lives positively.
Interviewer: You have served as the head coach at Valdosta and Cairo. How have these experiences shaped your coaching philosophy?
Kevin Elliott: Each program has its unique culture and challenges. At both Valdosta and Cairo, I focused on building strong relationships with the athletes. I believe coaching is as much about mentorship as it is about technique. I strive to create an environment where athletes feel safe to express themselves, work hard, and learn from their mistakes. My philosophy centers on fostering growth—not just in wrestling skills but as individuals.
Interviewer: Recently, you received recognition for your achievements in coaching. How does it feel to be acknowledged for your contributions to the sport?
Kevin Elliott: It’s a humbling experience. I’ve always focused on the athletes and the success of our programs, so to receive this honor feels surreal. I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout my career—my fellow coaches, the parents, and most importantly, the athletes themselves. They are the reason I do what I do, and their hard work and dedication inspire me every day.
Interviewer: What do you consider your biggest achievement during your coaching career?
Kevin Elliott: While winning championships is always exciting, I believe my biggest achievement is the impact I’ve had on my athletes. Seeing them grow into successful individuals—whether they continue in wrestling or not—is incredibly fulfilling. When they come back years later to tell me how the lessons learned in wrestling have shaped their lives, I know I’ve done my job.
Interviewer: As you look to the future, what are your goals for your coaching career?
Kevin Elliott: I want to continue developing my athletes both on and off the mat. I’m very passionate about mentoring the next generation of wrestlers. Whether it’s adapting to the evolving styles of wrestling or incorporating new training methods, my goal is to ensure that our program remains competitive while focusing on the holistic development of athletes.
Interviewer: Lastly, what advice would you give to aspiring wrestling coaches?
