Kevin Keeshan, ‍executive vice president of News Editorial for NBCU Local, is ⁢retiring after a distinguished 47-year career in local news. His departure marks the end of an era for the network.

Valari Staab, chairman of NBCUniversal Local, acknowledged ⁢Keeshan’s impact in ⁤an email to staff. She noted their long working relationship, ⁤beginning in 1998 at KFSN in fresno.Staab described Keeshan as a “true ⁤professional” ⁢who substantially impacted local journalism.

During his tenure at NBCU, which began ​in 2012, Keeshan played a key role in launching ‌the Consumer Investigative Center and NBC Responds/Telemundo Responde in 2014.⁣ He also contributed to‍ enhancing‌ weather resources for local stations, including a large, privately owned‍ radar network.

In retirement,Keeshan will take on a new role ‍ as a volunteer with⁢ the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team in New York,providing aid‍ to‍ those ‌affected ‍by ⁤fires and other emergencies.he will also⁣ be deployed nationally​ during major disasters.Additionally,he will serve⁤ on the board⁢ of Consumer Action,a nonprofit promoting consumer rights and financial well-being ⁤for low-income and Spanish-speaking‍ communities.
