LONDON (AP) — One of teh oldest trees in London’s Kew Gardens has been reimagined as a digital artwork. The installation opened to the public this week.
‘Of the Oak’ Installation Unveiled
The Lucombe oak, originally planted in 1762, is now represented by “Of the Oak,” a six-meter-high LED installation. The artwork presents a 3D model of the tree, showcasing its changes through the seasons in a 12-minute loop.
Interactive Experience for Visitors
The exhibition responds to the movement of visitors, with illuminated pixels reacting to their presence, encouraging interaction with the artwork’s surface.
Collaboration with Artists and Scientists
Created by the Marshmallow Laser Feast artists in collaboration with Kew scientists, the work utilizes advanced technologies, including Lidar and ground-penetrating radar.
Exhibition Details
The installation is located near the original site where the Lucombe oak grew. it will be on display from May 2 to September 28.
