Keyshia Cole Attends BET Awards With Family, Discusses Motherhood Role
Keyshia Cole made a stunning appearance at the BET Awards at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 9, accompanied by her sons, Daniel Gibson jr. and Tobias Khale. The R&B singer posed on the red carpet with her children before taking to the stage.
Cole later joined rapper GloRilla for the live debut of their new single, “Typa,” which samples Cole’s 2005 hit, “Love.”
cole, mother to Daniel Jr. (born in 2009) with ex-husband Daniel Gibson, and Tobias (born in 2019) with ex-boyfriend Niko Khale, recently spoke about how embracing the role of motherhood has influenced her life.
In a recent interview, Cole reflected on how her outlook shifted after becoming a mother. “I would hurt myself for my children,” Cole said. “Being a mom, yeah.I didn’t want to, like, you know, go to jail and never get to see them again. So, I mean, you have to make life-altering decisions.”
Cole also shared insights into her sons’ contrasting personalities. She noted that her older son rarely displays anger, which concerns her. “I never seen my oldest son angry at all, ever,” she said. ”And I’m scared about that. I’m like, where is it coming, when is it coming? As I’ve never seen him yell, get loud, argue.”
Her younger son, Tobias, brings a different energy to the household.”My little one, he cusses everybody out,” Cole said with a laugh. “That one is gonna give me all hell that broke loose with me. I hope—I pray not—but it looks as if so, ’cause he don’t take no [stuff] at all. Like, he be capping on his brother.” She mentioned that Tobias playfully teases Daniel Jr. about his size, which she discourages.
