KFF has launched a new podcast titled “The Business of Health with Chip Kahn” to explore the intersection of healthcare delivery, policy, and the business systems that support them. The podcast, which debuted on April 21, 2026, aims to examine how financial structures, technological innovations like artificial intelligence, and operational decisions impact patient care and healthcare access in the United States.
The inaugural episode features a conversation between host Chip Kahn, a senior visiting fellow at KFF, and Drew Altman, founding president and chief executive officer of KFF. In the discussion, Altman emphasizes that KFF’s mission continues to evolve beyond traditional health policy analysis to include deeper examination of the business mechanics that underlie healthcare delivery.
According to Altman, effective healthcare delivery depends not only on clinical expertise and patient-centered values but also on functioning business systems. “To make that caring happen, to sustain it, and to meet the expectations of every patient who walks through the door, there is a business that has to work,” he states in the podcast’s opening segment.
The podcast’s first series focuses specifically on artificial intelligence in healthcare, aiming to clarify how AI technologies are being integrated into clinical workflows, administrative functions, and patient-facing services. Kahn and Altman discuss both the potential benefits of AI in improving efficiency and diagnostic accuracy, as well as the challenges related to implementation, equity, and oversight.
KFF positions the podcast as part of its broader effort to translate complex health policy topics into accessible content for professionals, policymakers, and the public. By centering conversations on the business side of healthcare — including financing, incentives, and technology adoption — the series seeks to illuminate how non-clinical factors shape the quality and accessibility of care.
Both hosts bring extensive experience to the discussions. Chip Kahn serves as a senior visiting fellow at KFF and holds affiliated roles at the American Enterprise Institute and the University of Southern California’s Schaeffer Center for Health Policy & Economics. Drew Altman has led KFF for over three decades since its founding in the 1990s and is recognized as a leading voice in national health policy and health journalism.
The podcast is released weekly and is available on major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube Music. KFF notes that future episodes will continue to examine topics such as healthcare market dynamics, insurance design, and the role of innovation in shaping care delivery models.
