Despite the combined efforts of park rangers and the shop owner, Plai Biang Lek remained undeterred. Shouts and pleas proved ineffective as the massive animal continued to explore the shelves with its trunk, persistent to find a tasty treat. The search for snacks lasted approximately 10 minutes before the elephant finally retreated back into the forest.Fortunately,no one was injured during the encounter.
The shop owner estimated the cost of repairing the damaged shelves and replacing the pilfered goods to be more than 1,000 baht. While acknowledging the potential for a much worse outcome, the incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by communities living near wildlife habitats.
