Plai Biang Lek, a large tusker from Khao Yai National Park, wandered into a local shop in the Pak Chong district, ⁣surprising the owners and causing damage ⁣as it rummaged for food.this incident highlights⁢ the ongoing challenges of wildlife encounters and the‍ need for effective wildlife management.

The shop, situated about a kilometer from the national park’s entrance in Ban Tha Maprang, became an unexpected buffet for the elephant. The elephant raid occurred around 3 p.m.as the shop owner was assisting a customer. The sheer size of Plai Biang Lek, whose backbone nearly touched the ceiling, sent the shop owner and customer fleeing in panic. They promptly alerted park rangers to the unusual‍ situation.

Despite the combined efforts of⁢ park rangers and the shop owner, Plai ⁤Biang⁤ Lek remained undeterred. Shouts and pleas proved ineffective as the massive animal continued to explore⁢ the shelves with its trunk, persistent to find a tasty treat. The ⁢ search for snacks lasted approximately 10 minutes before the elephant ⁤finally retreated back into the forest.Fortunately,no one was ⁤injured during the encounter.

The shop owner estimated the ‍cost of repairing the damaged shelves⁢ and replacing the pilfered goods ⁣to be more ‍than 1,000 baht. While acknowledging ⁣the potential for a much worse outcome, the incident serves as a reminder ⁣of the challenges faced by communities living near wildlife habitats.
