While the strike caused damage to a private residence, the mayor emphasized that there were no reported casualties.
This attack follows a night of widespread drone attacks across Ukraine. Russian forces launched 103 drones from multiple directions, targeting various regions including Kharkiv. Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed 61 of the drones.
The remaining drones caused damage to infrastructure and private homes in several regions, resulting in three injuries in the Kharkiv region.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted the international nature of the threat, revealing that Ukrainian authorities discovered over 8,700 foreign-made components within the downed drones.
Living Under the Threat
The constant threat of drone attacks weighs heavily on the minds of Ukrainians. Nadia Petrova, a Kharkiv resident, shared her experience with Viktor Kyivsky, a concerned citizen from Kyiv.viktor: Nadia, I heard about the drone attack on Kharkiv earlier today. Are you alright?
Nadia: Thank goodness,Viktor,I’m safe. The strike happened near the border of Kyivskyi and Sltvoskyi districts, quite a distance from where I live.
Viktor: That’s a relief to hear. What do we know about the attack?
Nadia: According to Mayor Terekhov, it was a “Shahed” drone – those Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicles Russia has been using a lot lately.Viktor: They’ve been attacking all over Ukraine, haven’t they? I read that this was just one in a series of drone strikes last night.
Nadia: Yes, it was a pretty intense night. president Zelenskyy said Russia fired 103 drones from different directions. Thankfully, our air defenses shot down most of them, 61 to be exact.
Viktor: So, what happened in Kharkiv?
Nadia: Thankfully, there were no casualties here. The drone hit a private residence and caused damage, but thankfully no one was hurt.
Viktor: Still, it must be terrifying living under the constant threat of these attacks.
Nadia: It is indeed stressful, Viktor. We are constantly on edge. It’s hard to predict when or where these drones will strike.
Viktor: What’s even more disturbing is that the President mentioned finding foreign-made components in the downed drones. It shows that this is a global issue, and not just an internal conflict.
Nadia: Precisely, Viktor. it’s a reminder that we are fighting for a bigger cause – freedom and democracy, not just for ourselves but for the world.
Viktor: Stay strong, Nadia. We are all rooting for you.
Nadia: Thank you, Viktor. We will!
