Historic Taipei School to Rebrand as International middle School
Taipei, Taiwan – Beishi Private Kiangshu Middle School, a taipei institution with roots dating back to 1899, is set for a major transformation. The schoolS board of directors has approved a takeover by the board of directors of private Jinmin Elementary School, paving the way for a rebranding as Jinmin International Middle School.
The move, expected to be finalized in the 2024-2025 academic year, aims to revitalize the school and offer a more internationally focused curriculum. Jinmin Elementary School Principal Rao Bang’an expressed his vision for the new institution: “We hope that Jinmin Primary school graduates will be able to seamlessly transition to the international secondary school system.”
Rao highlighted the declining birth rate as a factor influencing the decision, stating that the restructuring will allow for updated facilities and a focus on bilingual education. Jinmin Elementary School’s existing partnership with a Canadian dual academic system will be leveraged to enhance the international offerings at the new middle school.
Construction of new buildings on the Kiangshu campus is already underway,signaling the commitment to modernizing the educational surroundings.
The Taipei Municipal Education Bureau confirmed receipt of Kiangshu School’s proposal, noting that the name change is part of a larger restructuring plan requiring formal approval.
Kiangshu Middle School, originally founded in Shanghai as “Wu Hui Academy,” boasts a rich history. After relocating to Taiwan in 1950, it has served generations of students thru its general, vocational, and bilingual programs.
