Yan Chai Hospital Tung Chi Ying Memorial College, a dominant force in the Shatin and Sai Kung District School A Football Match for 17 consecutive years, has been barred from participating in the competition due to administrative negligence. The school failed to register for the school football match before the deadline, and the School Sports Association has decided not to accept late registrations.
The school association explained that it had notified all schools of the competition arrangements as early as July and has been in contact with each school. Despite this, Yan Chai Hospital Tung Chi Ying Memorial College missed the deadline, citing administrative negligence as the reason.
The school association stated that it had received a request from the school to reset the online system password on the 13th of last month, before the registration deadline. The password was immediately processed on the same day and confirmed by the school via email. This suggests that the school could have logged in to the system to register, but failed to do so.
Some Legislative Council members have expressed support for the school association’s decision. Ho King-hong, a member of the New People’s Party’s Election Committee, said, “It is a pity to hear about the incident, but in fact, the rules are the rules, and everyone has to abide by them all the time. If it is to be handled on a case-by-case basis, in addition to the consent of the school association, other participating schools must also agree. Otherwise, it will be absolutely unfair to the schools that submitted the registration form on time.”
The school has expressed regret over the incident, but stressed that as the organizer, it needs to take into account all member schools for comprehensive consideration and maintain the fairness of the system.
The Education Workers Union has come to the defense of the outgoing department head, who was accused by the school of being uncooperative during the handover period. The union stated that the school’s accusation was false and that the principal had been aware of the incident and personally signed the form for the online system password at the end of July.
Another teacher from the same school has also come forward, stating that the principal had been in contact with the new physical education teacher and reminded him to register. The teacher criticized the principal for repeatedly blaming the school’s administrative mistakes on the resigned teacher and publishing false information, which seriously affected his reputation.
The school has not responded to these allegations yet.
