Kick-Off Diplomacy: Beijing Hosts Unforgettable Friendly Football Match Between International Diplomats and Local Middle Schoolers
African Diplomats in China Engage in Friendly Football Match with Local Schools
A friendly football match between African diplomats in China and Chinese schools was held at Beijing No. 12 Middle School, promoting cultural exchange and friendship between the two nations.
The event, which took place on September 22, saw the participation of around 200 people, including diplomats from 22 African countries, their children, and representatives from related units. The football friendly match was divided into two events: the youth group and the adult group.
In the match between the African youth team and the student team of Beijing No. 12 Middle School, the two sides tied 1:1 and entered a penalty shootout. The student team of Beijing No. 12 Middle School ultimately won 7:6. Wang Runyu from Beijing No. 12 Middle School praised the African friends for their strength and excellence in physical confrontation and speed.
The adult group match between the African diplomats’ dream team in China and the teachers’ team of Beijing No. 12 Middle School saw the African diplomats emerge victorious with a score of 4:0. Bambu, the cultural counselor of the Gabonese Embassy in China, emphasized that the match process was more significant than the score.
Aside from the friendly football match, a youth cultural exchange activity called “China-Africa Friendship as One Family” was also held. Chinese and African youths collaborated on a long painting scroll with the theme of “China-Africa One Family.” Students from Beijing No. 12 Middle School showcased their martial arts and aerobics skills.
The event was hosted by China Foreign Affairs University, Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau. It was undertaken by China Foreign Affairs University’s Basic Education Department, Beijing No. 12 Middle School, and Beijing Football Association, with co-organization from the Foreign Affairs Office of Beijing Fengtai District People’s Government.
