Kicked Out for Refusing to Pay: The Shocking Truth Behind Baekdabang Drinks and a Sea of Plastic Bags
Plastic Found in Drinks at Baekdabang Cafe Franchise
A recent incident at a Baekdabang cafe franchise in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do, has raised concerns about food safety and customer well-being. According to reports, a customer’s children fell ill after consuming drinks containing crushed plastic.
On the 7th, Mr. A visited the Baekdabang store with his two children and ordered three drinks, including the Baekschino Cookie Crunch. However, after drinking about 80% of the Cookie Crunch Back Schino, the children discovered a harsh and hard-to-chew foreign substance in the drink.
Upon investigation, it was found that a plastic bag of chocolate cookies had been crushed along with other ingredients due to a shop worker’s mistake. The bag had gotten stuck in the lid of the blender, resulting in the plastic being mixed into the drinks.
The shop owner initially offered to cover the hospital treatment costs and provide a receipt for any medical expenses. However, when the hospital bill exceeded 1 million won, the owner claimed that insurance would not cover the special hospital room fees.
Investigation and Response
The Iksan City Sanitation Department and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety launched an investigation into the incident and reviewed the store’s closed-circuit television footage. The footage confirmed that plastic had been crushed into the drinks due to a mistake by the shop owner and workers.
As a result, the store in question will receive an administrative correction order. Baekdabang has since reversed its stance and agreed to pay the special room rates and cover all hospital expenses with insurance.
Measures to Prevent Future Incidents
Baekdabang has taken steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. The company has provided training to increase menu manufacturing control and has re-implemented hygiene training for its employees.
Additionally, Baekdabang has issued a manufacturing manual to all stores, emphasizing the importance of proper food handling and preparation procedures. This includes opening packaging and storing ingredients in airtight containers before use, as well as wearing sanitary gloves when handling food.
