Kicking into High Gear: World Martial Arts Federation Hosts Thrilling 2024 International Competition and Strategic Meeting in Chungju
World Martial Arts Federation to Host International Martial Arts Competition and UNESCO Martial Arts Promotion Committee Meeting

The World Martial Arts Federation (President Jeong Hwa-tae) is set to host a series of events, including the ‘2024 International Martial Arts Competition’ and the ‘6th UNESCO Martial Arts Promotion Committee Regular Meeting’, from October 10th to 13th at the International Martial Arts Center in Tangeum Park, Chungju.
The UNESCO Director-General has expressed gratitude to the World Martial Arts Federation for promoting these events, noting that they align with UNESCO’s key policies of Physical Education & Sport, Traditional Sports and Games, and Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The World Martial Arts Federation will hold the ’23rd World Martial Arts Federation Annual General Meeting’ on October 10th, the ‘2024 International Martial Arts Competition’ from the 11th to the 13th, and the ‘6th UNESCO Martial Arts Promotion Committee Regular Meeting’ on the 11th.

During the event, a martial arts experience center will be set up, where attendees can experience the martial arts performances and traditional martial arts of the Philippine national team, the guest country for the International Martial Arts Competition. Additionally, a Hall of Fame induction ceremony and a special taekwondo performance by the Korean ‘Mirme Taekwondo’ team will take place at the opening ceremony of the International Martial Arts Competition.
The International Martial Arts Competition is a martial arts performance competition with music from each country, with a total prize money of 33 million won. The ‘2024 Global Martial Arts Forum’ hosted by the UNESCO International Center for Martial Arts (ICM) will also be held from October 7 to 9.
The UNESCO Martial Arts Promotion Committee is a committee comprised of representatives of traditional martial arts from 11 countries around the world, including Korea’s traditional martial arts Taekkyeon and Ssireum, which have been designated as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The committee will discuss various measures, including the promotion and protection of registered martial arts, and sharing of experiences and knowledge.
The World Martial Arts Federation aims to make the October event a success, promoting the cultural and artistic value of traditional martial arts around the world, and providing a festival for martial artists worldwide. The event will also serve as an opportunity for further development through exchanges between traditional martial arts around the world.
