Kieran Hanrahan to Step Down After 30 Years Hosting RTÉ Radio 1’s Céilí House

After three decades of bringing traditional Irish music and culture into homes across Ireland, Kieran Hanrahan will retire as host of RTÉ Radio 1’s beloved program, Céilí House, this weekend.His final show will be a live broadcast from the Gig Rig at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Wexford on Saturday, August 9th, at 9:02 pm.
A Legacy of Irish Music
Kieran Hanrahan’s impact on Céilí House and Irish traditional music is undeniable. He took the reins in 1995, building upon a program that has been a staple of RTÉ Radio as the 1950s.However, as RTÉ notes, Hanrahan truly “made the show his own,” transforming it into a cornerstone of weekend listening for generations.
Before Céilí house, Hanrahan joined RTÉ in 1992, initially presenting Clump Club and Both Sides Now, showcasing his versatility and passion for diverse musical genres. but it was his dedication to traditional Irish music that truly resonated with audiences.

Céilí House isn’t just a radio show; it’s a celebration of community and culture. Hanrahan’s warmth, deep knowlege of the music, and genuine interest in the stories behind the artists created a unique and welcoming atmosphere. “For me, every night was a highlight,” Hanrahan shared.”I am deeply grateful to our loyal listeners, and to the countless musicians, singers, and dancers, whose talent and generosity brought the music to life. Acknowledging a Significant Contribution
