Kim Hye-suk, former president of EVA Women’s University, elected first Asian president of International Philosophical Federation
Kim Hye-suk has been elected as the new president of the International Federation of Philosophy (FISP). She is the first Asian president of the organization. Kim received a majority of votes in the first round, outpacing two other nominees. Her term will last until 2028, coinciding with the Tokyo World Philosophical Congress.
The International Philosophical Union, established in 1948, is a leading global organization in philosophy. It includes over 130 member countries and 150 member societies from various regions. The Union organizes the World Congress of Philosophers every five years, which is the largest global gathering of philosophers.
Kim Hye-suk has nearly 40 years of experience in philosophical research. She has specialized in areas such as epistemology, philosophy of art, and feminist philosophy. During her career, she held several leadership roles, including president of the Korean Philosophical Society and the Society for Women in Philosophy. She was also the president of Eva Women’s University from 2017 to 2021.
Kim expressed her vision for the organization, stating the importance of connecting philosophy with current issues in digital and biomedical technology. She aims to enhance dialogue among philosophers and address urgent matters through the International Philosophical Union.
