Kim Novak: Film Career & Golden Lion Award
Kim Novak to Receive Golden lion at Venice Film Festival
Legendary actress kim Novak, known for her iconic role in films such as “Vertigo,” ”Picnic,” and ”Bell, Book and Candle,” will be honored with the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement at the 82nd Venice film Festival, scheduled for Aug. 27 to Sept. 6, 2025.
The Biennale board approved the decision based on a proposal by the festival’s artistic director, Alberto Barbera. Barbera lauded Novak as one of Hollywood’s most beloved stars, noting her independent spirit and her influence on cinema. He said Novak rose to the role of a diva without intending to.
Novak, now 92, expressed her gratitude for the prestigious award. “I am very, very impressed to receive the prestigious gold lion prize by a much respected film festival. Being recognized for the whole work in this moment of my life is a dream that comes true,” she said.
Barbera highlighted Novak’s career, from her debut in the mid-1950s to her voluntary departure from Hollywood. He noted her ability to portray both naive and sensual characters, which earned her the respect of major American directors such as billy Wilder, Otto Preminger, and alfred Hitchcock.
The festival will also host the world premiere of “Kim Novak’s Vertigo,” a documentary by Alexandre Philippe, created with Novak’s exclusive collaboration. The Golden Lion aims to celebrate a free star, a rebel in the heart of the system, which illuminated the dreams of cinephilia before retiring in a ranch in Oregon to devote himself to painting and horses.
