As cabbage prices skyrocket, the popularity of purchased kimchi is also skyrocketing.
Daesang, which accounts for one-third of the packaged kimchi market, announced on the 25th that it is adjusting the quantity of its own mall due to insufficient kimchi inventory.
As of the morning of the 25th, out of 42 cabbage kimchi products in the Target company’s own mall, Garden e-shop, 35 products, including cabbage kimchi, aged kimchi, and white kimchi, are sold out.
A representative of the company stated, “As the unit price of cabbage is rising and supply is difficult, we need to adjust supply and demand until the fall cabbage is shipped in the middle of next month. However, since we do not have enough inventory, we are delivering to business partners first and adjusting the quantity of our own mall.”
The target was reported to have exhausted its stockpiled cabbages.
At CJ The Market, owned by CJ CheilJedang, the second largest packaged kimchi company, 21 out of 29 Bibigo cabbage kimchi products are temporarily out of stock.
As a result of the heat wave that continued until September, the quantity of cabbage decreased, and the wholesale price of premium cabbage soared to 9,537 won per head in mid-September.
