Theme and Eligibility
The theme for this year is “Hier und in mir. Mein Platz in dieser Welt” (“Here and in me. My place in this world”).The competition is open to children and adolescents aged twelve to nineteen who reside in Thuringia. The deadline for submissions is April 23, with artwork accepted starting March 31.
Exploring Personal Space
Participants are encouraged to artistically explore questions such as: “Mein Platz… Was bedeutet das für dich? Heimat? Zu Hause? Vielleicht das Gefühl von Geborgenheit? Oder ist es ein bestimmter Ort? Vielleicht ist es aber auch eine Person,mit der du etwas Besonderes verbindest.Für jeden Menschen ist es etwas anderes und damit so vielfältig wie die Menschen selbst.Zeig uns deinen Platz!” (“my place… What does it mean to you? Homeland? Home? Maybe the feeling of security? Or is it a specific place? Maybe it’s also a person with whom you connect something special. for every person, it is something different and thus as diverse as the people themselves. Show us your place!”)
Creative Freedom
The artistic interpretation of the theme is entirely up to the children and adolescents. Both individual and group works are welcome, provided they were created outside of regular school lessons, in youth art schools, under autonomous sponsorship, or at schools. There are no limits to the choice of techniques and materials. Collage, photography, graphic novels, stop-motion animation, painting, drawing, sculpture, performance art, urban art, and media art are all accepted.
Awards and Exhibition
awards will be given in two age categories:
- 12- to 15-year-olds: 1st Prize: 300 Euro, 2nd Prize: 200 Euro, 3rd Prize: 100 Euro
- 16- to 19-year-olds: 1st Prize: 400 Euro, 2nd Prize: 300 Euro, 3rd Prize: 200 Euro
additionally, a public choice award, worth 300 Euro, will be granted, which also includes participation in an art workshop. Selected works will be exhibited at the KunstForum Hannah Höch Gotha from june 1 to July 13, 2025.
Background of the Eva-Maria-Dicken-Preis
The eva-Maria-Dicken-Preis is being awarded for the 14th time by the Freundeskreis Kunstsammlungen Schloss friedenstein e.V. and the Friedenstein stiftung Gotha. The Dicken family from Wuppertal established the prize. In 2011, the family decided to donate the prize money as part of a grant agreement for the Freundeskreis Kunstsammlungen Schloss Friedenstein Gotha e.V., with the support of the Kreissparkasse Gotha Kapital. The prize has become established nationwide as the Thuringian Youth Art Prize, in close cooperation with the LAG Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Jugendkunstschulen Thüringen e. V.Since last year, a youth jury has also been significantly involved in the awarding of the prize and the selection of works, alongside the main jury.
