King Charles III has raised no objections to organizing a Thanksgiving service in honor of his late ex-wife, Princess Diana, on the approaching 30th anniversary of her death next August, according to the Daily Mail.

The proposed religious gathering is intended to bridge the deep rift between Prince William and Prince Harry. It is reported that the monarch wants to bring the estranged brothers together through an inspirational public remembrance mirroring the 2007 service held on the tenth anniversary of Diana’s death at the Wellington Barracks Guards’ Chapel. At that previous ceremony, her favorite music was played inside the chapel and Harry addressed the assembled crowd.

According to details published by Page Six citing a Daily Mail report, columnist Ephraim Hardcastle claimed the potential event would feature the late princess’s favorite music and offer a dignified setting for her sons to participate. An insider told Page Six that William could celebrate his mother’s life by giving a reading, calling the option far more dignified than the Prince of Wales appearing in one of the various documentaries he has been asked to join. Sources noted that because Harry has his own projects in the works, any documentary William participated in would inevitably be portrayed as a rival to whatever Harry might make.

Prince Harry has been notably vocal about his desire to heal family divides. In a BBC interview, the Duke of Sussex stated, I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. It would be nice to reconcile. Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry has met with his father several times, including once last July, accompanied by Meghan Markle and their children, Archie and Lilibet. Away from official duties, the couple was recently spotted at a 16th-century pub enjoying gluten-free fish-and-chips.

Diverging Outlets Clash Over Reconciliation Outlook

While the monarch’s reported planning for the memorial was outlined, reports differed on whether a reunion between the brothers is feasible. Page Six cited royal journalist Tom Sykes, who asserted that a reunion between William and Harry is just not gonna happen. Page Six also referenced royal expert Kinsey Schofield, who stated that Prince William has washed his hands of his brother to protect his immediate family and handle his responsibilities as Prince of Wales.

The brothers have remained estranged despite Prince Harry relocating to the United Kingdom with wife Meghan Markle and their two children, Archie and Lilibet. Although the siblings attended the funeral of their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes in Snettisham, Norfolk, sources indicated they did not speak during the gathering. The pair previously appeared together in 2021 to unveil a statue of Diana in the Kensington Palace gardens to mark what would have been her 60th birthday. Regarding the current climate, one source noted that while the siblings seem to have rejected any chance of working together, a religious event could change the tides. However, others remain skeptical, with Schofield noting, The Sussexes’ presence will always generate noise and distraction.
