King Mohammed VI chaired a Council of Ministers on April 9, 2026, at the Royal Palace in Rabat to address strategic priorities, including the status of the national agricultural season and the implementation of integrated territorial development programs.
The meeting, convened according to a statement from the Royal Office, focused on the approval of two draft organic laws and a draft decree relating to military affairs. The Council also reviewed a series of international agreements and processed appointments to several senior positions within the government.
Agricultural Performance and Water Reserves
During the proceedings, King Mohammed VI requested an update from the minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests regarding the progress of the current agricultural season. The minister reported that the season has been characterized by very heavy rainfall, which has revitalized agricultural activities across all regions of the Kingdom.
The annual average rainfall was recorded at 520 millimeters, representing a 54% increase compared to the annual average of the previous thirty years. These weather conditions have significantly improved the levels of dam reservoirs, which currently stand at 12.8 billion cubic meters, reflecting a 75% fill rate.
According to the report provided to the Council, these water reserves are expected to satisfy the irrigation requirements for spring and summer crops, as well as the needs at the beginning of the subsequent agricultural season.
The agricultural sector also saw record-breaking production levels for key fruit crops. Morocco recorded the production of 2 million tons of olives, an increase of 111% compared to the previous year. Citrus fruit production reached 1.9 million tons, a 25% increase, while date production grew by 55% over the last season, totaling 160,000 tons.
Territorial Development and Investment
The Council also addressed the framework for integrated territorial development. Reports indicate that 210 billion Moroccan dirhams (MMDH) have been mobilized for these development programs over a period of eight years.

These programs are designed to foster integrated development across various regions, with the King emphasizing the importance of initial estimates and the strategic execution of these territorial projects to ensure balanced growth across the Kingdom.
Legislative and Administrative Actions
Beyond agricultural and territorial concerns, the April 9, 2026, session served as a venue for critical legislative approvals. The Council formally approved two draft organic laws and a draft decree specifically concerning the military sector.
The session concluded with the ratification of several international agreements and the confirmation of appointments to high-level positions, continuing the administration’s efforts to organize senior government and military leadership.
