New Taipei City, Taiwan – The New Taipei Kings kicked off the new year with a resounding victory over their city rivals, the New Taipei CITIC Special Attack, in a thrilling Taiwan Professional Basketball League (TPBL) matchup on January 1st. Led by a dominant performance from foreign player Jason Washburn, who racked up 25 points and 12 rebounds, the Kings cruised to a 96-79 win, solidifying their position as league leaders with a 10-3 record.

Dubbed the “New Taipei Civil War,” the game saw both teams battling fiercely for bragging rights in front of a passionate crowd at Xinzhuang Gymnasium. The Special Attack started strong, finding their rhythm early and leading 33-30 at the end of the first quarter. However, the Kings’ stifling defense proved too much to handle.

In the second half, the Kings unleashed a suffocating full-court double-team defense, forcing six turnovers from the Special attack in the third quarter alone. This defensive pressure fueled an 18-2 run, giving the kings a commanding 83-67 lead heading into the final quarter.

Despite a valiant effort from the Special Attack, who saw four players score in double figures, the Kings maintained their double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter. Washburn’s dominance inside, coupled with jeremy Lin’s all-around performance of 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, proved insurmountable for the Special Attack.

Kings shooter Jian Yue, who had a season-high 11 points in the game, expressed his satisfaction with his performance, stating, “My condition hasn’t been great this season, so I’m very happy to have good stats on the first day of the new year. I hope it continues.”

The Kings’ victory showcased their depth and resilience, cementing their status as a force to be reckoned with in the TPBL.
