Kings Trade Akil Thomas to Blues for Nikita Alexandrov
AHL Center Swap: Thomas to Springfield, Alexandrov Heads West
The AHL landscape is shifting as two promising centers have been traded, altering the dynamics of both the Springfield Thunderbirds and the Ontario Reign. This move provides both players with a change of scenery and opportunity to further develop their game.
Thomas Joins the Thunderbirds
Forward Jaret Thomas,a 25-year-old native of Toronto,is moving from the Ontario Reign (AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings) to the Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues). Originally a second-round pick by the Kings in 2018,Thomas has shown flashes of potential at the NHL level,appearing in 32 career games and registering four goals and three assists.
This season with the Reign, Thomas has recorded four goals and nine assists in 19 games. He will be looking to continue that offensive production with the Thunderbirds.
alexandrov Moves to Ontario
Heading in the opposite direction is German-born forward Dominik Alexandrov,also 25.Alexandrov has spent the entire 2023-24 season with the Springfield Thunderbirds, amassing three goals and 11 assists in 18 contests. He was originally selected in the second round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
While alexandrov has 51 career NHL games under his belt – with three goals and six assists – he hasn’t seen NHL action in the past two seasons. This move to the Ontario Reign could provide him with a renewed pathway back to the NHL.
