Kingston Shaw, a highly touted football prospect from the Orlando area, has announced his commitment to the University of Illinois. The rising senior’s decision came after an official visit to Champaign,where he solidified his choice to play for the Illini. Shaw, a standout defender, is set to join The First Academy for his upcoming spring season.
Despite interest from programs like Mississippi State and Michigan State, Shaw ultimately chose Illinois, citing the program’s consistent communication and family-oriented habitat.The Illinois coaching staff, led by Bret Bielema, made Shaw a priority early in his recruitment, offering him a scholarship in July of his sophomore year.
Illinois’s strong recruiting presence in Florida, where they have multiple commitments in their top-10 class, also played a significant role in Shaw’s decision. He emphasized the close relationships he has formed with other illinois commits from the Sunshine State.
With his college decision finalized, Shaw can now focus on his senior season at The First Academy, which boasts a national schedule that includes a game against IMG Academy.
“This weekend, along with my family, confirmed I’m 100 percent locked in with Illinois,” Shaw said. ”The whole family aspect is big, it’s one team, one heartbeat, one voice. It’s all the same standard.”
Shaw also expressed his comfort with head coach Bret Bielema, highlighting Bielema’s track record of developing players for the NFL and his long-term commitment to the program.
“With Coach B, he’s been amazing,” he said. “Every time I’ve met with him, sat down and talked to him, me and my parents have had it great. He is definitely someone I see myself playing for in the future.”
The players at Illinois also made a positive impression on Shaw, welcoming him and making him feel like part of the team from the moment he stepped on campus.
“From the moment I stepped on campus, the players embraced me right off the bat,” Shaw said. “They love me…With these guys, they act like you’re one of the brothers and you’re accepted into the environment.”

Shaw will now concentrate on preparing for his senior season and contributing to The First Academy’s ambitious schedule before joining the Illinois football program in January.
