Updated June 09,2025

George kirby delivered a stellar⁣ performance Sunday, leading the Seattle Mariners to a ⁢3-2 victory over ⁣the Los⁣ Angeles Angels and snapping their five-game losing streak. Kirby, the Mariners’‌ ace, achieved a ⁤career-high 14 strikeouts while allowing just two runs on two hits over seven innings.

Manager Dan Wilson praised⁣ Kirby’s exceptional command and quality strikes, noting it⁢ was one of the best performances he had witnessed. The Mariners needed a strong start, and ⁤Kirby delivered, ⁣setting a positive tone for the team as they head to Arizona‍ for their next series.

Kirby’s outing marked a significant turnaround after a challenging start to the ‌season, which‍ was delayed due to a shoulder injury. Despite losing ⁢his previous three starts and even taking a ⁣line drive off his face in a game against Baltimore, Kirby showcased the form that earned⁣ him an All-Star ‌selection in 2023.His ERA dropped from 8.56 to ‍6.53.

the‌ only blemish on Kirby’s record came in the fourth inning when Mike Trout singled and Taylor Ward followed with a two-run⁣ homer. Though, Kirby quickly regained his composure, finishing the game with three consecutive scoreless innings, including striking ‍out⁣ both Trout and Ward‌ in the seventh.

“We needed a big one today, and hopefully this sets the tone for us,” Kirby said. “hopefully we keep rolling.it’s⁤ always good when‌ you go out there and give your team the best chance to win after a couple of losses.”

Andres munoz also ⁤found his footing, securing the save by striking out Trout with a runner on ⁢first to end the game. ‌Munoz had been struggling, having blown back-to-back save opportunities.

“It’s probably one of the most important starts⁢ we’ve had, with the way our pitching is going and George being able to come out and ‌put on really the performance of his career,” ⁣catcher Mitch Garver said.

What’s next

The Mariners hope that⁣ Kirby’s dominant performance and Munoz’s accomplished save ‍will carry over as they head to ‍Arizona for‍ a‌ three-game series, aiming to build on this momentum and improve their standing in the league.
