Kirstie Allsopp ‘So Embarrassed’ by Gregg Wallace Sex Remark
TV Personality Kirstie Allsopp Recalls Embarrassing Encounter with Gregg Wallace
Renowned TV presenter Kirstie allsopp has spoken out about an uncomfortable encounter with fellow television personality Gregg Wallace, alleging he made an inappropriate comment about his sex life several years ago.
Allsopp, 53, best known for her work on “Location, Location, Location,” shared the experience during an interview on BBC Radio 4’s “The World This Weekend.” she described the incident, which took place in a performers’ lounge while filming a pilot for a TV quiz show, as deeply embarrassing.
“I’d been chatting to his partner, she left the room and he [Wallace] made a reference to something they did in bed,” Allsopp revealed.”You know that feeling when you’re so embarrassed that you think you might cry? You just feel kind of internally scarlet. I had that feeling and I always remembered it.”
Allsopp’s comments come amidst a growing number of allegations against Wallace, 60, the popular host of “MasterChef.” He faces accusations of making inappropriate sexual jokes, requesting phone numbers from female production staff, and behaving inappropriately towards women on set.
Allsopp expressed particular anger at a recent Instagram video posted by wallace, in which he dismissed the complaints as coming from “a handful of middle-class women of a certain age.”
“That is unacceptable,” Allsopp stated. “Because he is essentially saying this is a class issue and middle-class women don’t understand the type of things he says because he’s working-class.Well I’m sorry, but he’s doing an amazing disservice to men.”
She added, “What’s he saying? That working-class men do this kind of thing, embarrass their wives and girlfriends and sisters and mothers? That’s unacceptable, of course that’s not the case.”
Allsopp, a mother of four, emphasized the distinction between “robust chat” and the type of comment Wallace allegedly made to her. She also expressed regret for not confronting him at the time.
Following the allegations, Wallace has stepped back from his role on “MasterChef” while an external review of the complaints is conducted by the show’s producer, Banijay UK.
Wallace’s lawyers have denied the allegations, stating ”it is entirely false that he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature.”
