Roadside Attractions has released the teaser trailer for “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” directed by Bill Condon, known for “Dreamgirls” and ”Chicago.” The film, adapted from the 1993 broadway musical, stars Jennifer Lopez, Diego Luna (“Andor”), and Tonatiuh.
Set in a Latin American prison in 1981, the story centers on Luis Molina (Tonatiuh), imprisoned for public indecency. To cope, Molina escapes into fantasies of movies starring Aurora (Lopez), a silver screen diva who sometimes embodies the deadly spider woman.
Molina’s world shifts when Valentin Arregui Paz (Luna), a political prisoner, becomes his cellmate. The two forge an unexpected connection.
The original story began as a 1976 novel by Argentine writer Manuel Puig. It was adapted into a critically acclaimed 1985 film, which earned William Hurt an Oscar and provided a breakthrough role for Raul Julia. Sonia Braga played the Spider Woman in that version.
The stage musical, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Condon himself wrote the screenplay for this new adaptation. the film explores themes of primary_keyword, secondary_keyword_1 and secondary_keyword_2.
