Javelin thrower Haruka Kitaguchi has ended her coaching relationship with Czech legend Jan Železný, according to a report by iSport.cz on January 9, 2026. Kitaguchi, who achieved significant success under Železný’s guidance, won bronze at the 2022 World Athletics Championships and secured two Diamond League titles.
Železný,a three-time Olympic gold medalist and world record holder in the javelin,began coaching Kitaguchi in 2022. Under his tutelage, she quickly rose to prominence in the sport.
However, Kitaguchi experienced setbacks in the 2023 season, failing to qualify for the final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Following the competition, she informed Železný of her decision to end their partnership.

Železný stated to iSport.cz that Kitaguchi had secured insurance in the Czech Republic and he had prepared accommodations for her for the next two years, but she terminated the agreement via email. The reason for the split remains unclear.
