New Zealand Creates History with Test Series Win on Indian Soil
Pune: New Zealand beat India in the second Test to win the series, marking a historic victory on Indian soil. India lost by 113 runs, with the Kiwis setting a target of 359 runs in the second innings. India were bowled out for 245 runs, with Mitchell Santner taking 13 wickets, including seven in the first innings and six in the second innings.
India, who set a spin trap in front of New Zealand in Pune, were spinning in front of Santner’s balls. Ajaz Patel took two wickets. The final score read: New Zealand – 259, 255, India – 156, 245. With this, the Kiwis won the three-match Test series 2-0 with one game to spare. The final Test of the series is in Mumbai on November 1.
A Historic Win for New Zealand
Pune was New Zealand’s first Test series win on Indian soil, having played a Test series in India since 1955-56. India have won 10 of the 13 Test series played so far. The Kiwis won this time when the two series were equal.
This was India’s first Test series defeat at home since 2012. With this defeat, India surrendered the record of 4331 days. India’s last loss in the Test series at home was against England in 2012 (2-1).
