Glastonbury, UK – Avon and Somerset Police have concluded their inquiry into comments made during performances at the Glastonbury Festival, announcing that no further action will be taken against the Irish group Kneecap. However, inquiries continue into separate remarks made by the artist Bob Vylan.
Police Probe into Festival Performances
The investigation stemmed from public complaints received by Avon and Somerset Police following the June 28th performances on the West Holts Stage. The police acknowledged the “strength of public feeling” after receiving a notable volume of contact from individuals worldwide. While the specific nature of the comments under scrutiny was not initially detailed, the focus was understood to be on chants and statements made during the sets.
Kneecap’s Set and Subsequent Investigation
Kneecap, known for their energetic performances and politically charged lyrics, played a historic set that reportedly drew massive crowds, with the area closing an hour before their performance due to demand. Following the festival, the group shared a screenshot of an email from a senior investigating officer, which they described as an “intimidation attempt.”
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed on Friday that their investigation into comments made during Kneecap’s performance, specifically concerning a “forthcoming court case,” had concluded. After seeking advice from the Crown Prosecution Service, the police determined there was “insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction for any offense.” Kneecap was officially informed of this decision.
Bob Vylan’s Performance Under Continued Scrutiny
In contrast, Avon and Somerset Police stated that ”Enquiries continue to be carried out in relation to separate comments made on stage during Bob vylan’s performance.” bob Vylan had led the crowd in chants of “Free, free Palestine” and ”Death, death to the IDF” during his set, which preceded Kneecap’s performance.
Context: Kneecap Member’s Legal Proceedings

He was released on unconditional bail.Ó hAnnaidh, along with fellow band members Moglaí Bap (Naoise Ó Cairealláin) and DJ Próvaí (JJ Ó Dochartaigh), had appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 18th.
