Mavericks Block Knicks’ Jason Kidd Interview Request in Coaching Search
Updated June 13, 2025
The Dallas mavericks have rejected the New York Knicks’ request to interview Jason Kidd for their head coach
opening, sources confirmed Wednesday. This denial adds to the challenges faced by the Knicks in their search for
a new head coach.
The Knicks’ coaching search has hit multiple roadblocks. The Houston Rockets previously denied permission for
the Knicks to interview Ime Udoka, and the Minnesota Timberwolves blocked an interview with Chris Finch.
Additionally, the Atlanta hawks turned down New York’s request to speak with Quin Snyder, who recently finished
his third season with the team.
Udoka and Finch are coming off successful seasons, with the Rockets ending a four-year playoff drought and the
Timberwolves reaching their second straight conference finals. These successes likely contributed to their
respective teams’ decisions to retain their coaches.
New York is seeking a new head coach after surprisingly firing Tom Thibodeau last week. Thibodeau had led the
team to the Eastern Conference finals for the frist time in 25 years, making his dismissal unexpected.
Jay Wright, who coached three current Knicks starters at Villanova, reportedly informed New York last week that
he was not interested in the position.
What’s next
The Knicks will need to broaden their search and consider other candidates as they look to fill their head
coaching vacancy. The team aims to find a leader who can build on their recent progress and guide them deeper
into the playoffs.
