Kirk, Knowles and Putnam share Rocket Mortgage Classic lead

DETROIT – Chris Kirk, Philip Knowles and Andrew Putnam ended the second round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic sharing the lead at 14-under par. Knowles, after five straight missed cuts, propelled himself into contention with a 64, thanks to three eagles on the par-5s at Detroit Golf club. Kirk matched him with a second-round 65, starting strong with three birdies.
Putnam carded a 66 in less favorable conditions to join the leading trio. Jackson Suber sits one stroke behind after a 65 that included five consecutive birdies.
Jake Knapp shot a bogey-free 61,featuring an eagle and nine birdies,placing him in a large group at 11-under.This group includes Harry hall, David Skinns, Kevin Roy, Hideki Matsuyama, and Collin Morikawa.Morikawa credited a putter change for his 64.
Aldrich Potgieter, who shared the overnight lead, posted a 70, leaving him at 12-under. He also lost his share of the course record, initially set with Roy.
Seamus Power, despite improving from his opening-round 73, finished at even par and missed the cut, which fell at six-under.
