Ko Wenzhe’s Bold Move: Telling Chen Shui-bian to Ditch Security – A Lesson from 16 Years Ago
Former Taipei Mayor Ko Wenzhe and Former President Chen Shui-bian Embroiled in Corruption Case
Former Taipei Mayor Ko Wenzhe and former Deputy Mayor Peng Zhensheng have been charged with bribery and corruption in the Jinghua City Floor Area Ratio case. The Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office investigated the case, and Ko Wenzhe was allowed to return without bail by the District Court.
Former President Chen Shui-bian was asked about his opinion on the matter and responded, “It’s still under development! Don’t forget that 16 years ago I was sent home twice without a guarantee!” Chen Shui-bian has been practicing calligraphy and recently posted a piece titled “I am not guilty” on Facebook.
Chen Shui-bian’s calligraphy piece is inspired by a book he read while in a ghost town in Taichung. The book, also titled “I Am Not Guilty,” is a representative work of modern novelist Mazing Ramat, who won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature and was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Chen Shui-bian was previously interrogated by the Special Investigation Team on November 11, 2008, and was imprisoned the next day. Although the district court initially agreed to his detention, his lawyer successfully protested, and the court eventually approved his detention.
