The Jornada Digital IA PYME 2026 digital training initiative concluded on Oct. 1, reaching 1,256 businesses across Costa Rica through a collaborative push led by web creator Kolau alongside the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce.

The final leg of the tour took place at the San Rafael Hospital Auditorium in Alajuela and the Clodomiro Picado Auditorium at the National University in Heredia. The statewide effort previously traveled through Cartago, San Jose, San Carlos, Guatuso, Upala, Perez Zeledón, Coto Brus, and Goicoechea to target smaller enterprises outside the capital.

Digital Tools and Directories Increase Visibility for Local Enterprises

The nationwide campaign connects small and medium-sized enterprises with tools to build websites featuring integrated electronic commerce and artificial intelligence. Through the Kolau portal, participants learn to position their pages on the internet to attract traffic and convert visitors into paying customers.

Beyond individual websites, the initiative incorporates regional business directories spanning from San Jose to Alajuela. These directories allow consumers to discover nearby commercial services grouped by territory and activity, giving local enterprises greater digital visibility.

Institutional Backing Expands National Reach

The program relies on an extensive network comprising 52 local governments, the Embassy of Spain, the National University, the Universidad Internacional San Isidro Labrador, and six local chambers of commerce and tourism. The Economic and Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy copresided over a central event at the San Jose Municipality alongside the city’s vicealcaldesa.

This structured rollout builds on progress initiated when the broader plan launched in Costa Rica on Jan. 15. Prior to the October tour conclusion, the program enabled more than 6,000 local small businesses to build web sites equipped with payment buttons and free artificial intelligence utilities.

Kolau coordinates the current national effort as a continuation of a 2019 partnership launched with the Organization of American States. That continental program subsequently expanded across 11 countries in the Western Hemisphere, resulting in over one million enterprises establishing websites through the public-private-academic alliance.
