Kolkata Law College Rape Case: SIT Formed, ACP Under Probe
The Kolkata Police has formed a 5 -member Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of ACP Pradeep Kumar Ghoshal to continue the investigation of the Law College gang rape case. On June 25, a case of gang rape was revealed with a first year student at a Law College camp in South Kolkata. A total of four people, including the main accused, have been arrested in this case so far. Apart from Monojat, the three other accused arrested include first year student of South Kolkata Law College, Jab Ahmed, second -year student Pramit Mukherjee and a security guard Pinaki Banerjee.
The court has sent all the accused to police custody till 1 July. Meanwhile, the victim’s lawyer told in a conversation with today that before the rape of the student, she was molested in the union room located in the college campus. The accused dragged him from here to the security guard room and gang -raped her. The lawyer said that the arrested prime accused Monojit Mishra is very impressive due to his political association. The Trinamool Congress of Monojo College is the former president of the Congress Students’ Council Unit and is allegedly the organizational secretary of the South Kolkata Wing of TMC’s student organization.

The police have not ruled out the possibility of more arrests while continuing the investigation of the case. Police said in connection with the arrest of college guard Pinaki Banerjee, that he was present in the campus at the time of the incident and left the student alone on the instructions of the accused and left the guard room. Police said that despite the woman repeatedly pleading for help, the guard did not help her. It was the responsibility of the guard to inform the college administration or police about the incident, but he did not do so. During interrogation, his negligence was confirmed, after which he was arrested.
The victim student has alleged in a statement to the police that the security guard was seated outside the room after closing the main gate of the college. He was present on the spot, despite this he did not interfere. The main accused Monojit Mishra was arrested on 25 June, while co-accused first year student 19-year-old Jab Ahmed and second-year student Pramit Mukherjee were arrested on 26 June. At the same time, guard Pinaki Banerjee was arrested on 28 June. According to the complaint of the student, when she reached the campus to fill the form for the exam, she was attacked. He was forcibly taken to the guard room, where his clothes were taken off and raped.

According to the victim student, she had rejected the marriage proposal of Monojo Mishra, due to which she raped her. According to the victim, Monojit recorded this entire act in her mobile phone and later used the video to blackmail and threaten her. According to the police, the allegations were confirmed in the medical examination and the rape with the student, the bite on the body and the nail scratches were found. After the incident of rape of a trainee female doctor at RG Kar Medical College, this incident has once again given air to political rhetoric and allegations in West Bengal.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya described the incident as frightening and blamed the Trinamool Congress government and compared it to the sensational RGkar case. He said, ‘RGkar’s fear is not over, and similar heinous crimes are coming out in Bengal every day.’ In August 2024, a 31 -year -old trainee doctor was murdered after raping RG Kar Medical College. Demonstrations took place across the country to protest against this heinous crime and additional security measures were taken in educational institutions.
