Restaurant Owner Claims Repeated Utility Disruptions
Hyang Lee, owner of the restaurant “MISO,” took to social media on Friday to share her experience, bringing the issue to the attention of Gurugram Police. In a video posted online, Lee stated that despite consistently paying rent and maintenance charges for the past 14 years, the mall authorities have been illegally disconnecting essential services to her establishment.
“I have been running my restaurant legally for 14 years, complying with all Indian laws and licenses. For the past three years, the mall management and builder have been harassing me by illegally disconnecting essential services,” Lee said in the video,as reported by PTI. She expressed fears of being forced to return to South Korea with a negative experience if the situation isn’t resolved.
Lee has formally filed a complaint at the Sushant Lok Police Station and also contacted the South Korean Embassy, alleging the mall management is attempting to force her to vacate the leased premises.
Dispute Over ₹9 lakh Damage Claim
According to a statement released by the Gurugram Police, a meeting was held between Lee and the mall management on Friday. The police revealed that lee has operated her restaurant at the mall for approximately 14 years.
The core of the dispute centers around a notice issued by the mall management demanding ₹9 lakh in damages. The mall alleges that water leakage originating from Lee’s restaurant caused damage to the mall building. Lee has disputed this claim and refused to pay the demanded amount, leading to the utility cut-offs.
Police Mediation and Upcoming Meeting
Gurugram police confirmed that the immediate issue of electricity and water supply was resolved during Friday’s meeting. Though, the ₹9 lakh dispute remains outstanding.
“The dispute regarding electricity and water was resolved in the last meeting, but a meeting is scheduled for Monday to address the remaining ₹9 lakh dispute,” a police spokesperson stated. “This meeting will take place in the presence of the legal teams for both parties.”
The police are hopeful that further discussions with legal counsel will lead to a resolution acceptable to both Lee and the Global Foyer Mall management. The case highlights potential challenges faced by foreign buisness owners operating in India and the importance of clear contractual agreements and dispute resolution mechanisms.
