YouTube Tops the List of Most Used Apps in Korea

A recent survey revealed that YouTube was the most used app in Korea last month, with a total usage time of 117.4 billion minutes.

According to a sample survey of domestic smartphone users (Android + iOS) conducted by WiseApp, Retail, and Goods, YouTube was the app that Koreans used the longest last month, with an average daily usage time of 73 minutes per day.

YouTube was ranked as the app used the longest across all age groups. The age group with the longest YouTube usage time was those in their 20s, with 27.48 billion minutes, followed by those in their 30s (21.6 billion minutes), those in their 40s (21.43 billion minutes), those in their 50s (17.39 billion minutes), those in their teens (15.63 billion minutes), and those over 60 (13.84 billion minutes).

KakaoTalk ranked second in total usage, with 32.73 billion minutes, and was the second most used app among the age groups of 30s to 60s and above.

Instagram ranked second in terms of app usage time among teenagers and those in their 20s, while KakaoTalk ranked third.

Teenagers also used TikTok, Naver Webtoon, Roblox, Naver, Brawl Stars, X (formerly Twitter), and Zeta in that order.

For those in their 20s, the apps they used the most were X, Naver, Naver Webtoon, TikTok, Naver Map, Netflix, and Kakao Page, taking 3rd to 9th place, respectively.

For those in their 30s, the apps they used the most were Instagram, Naver, Naver Webtoon, TikTok, X, Roblox, T Map, and Brawl Stars.

For those in their 40s, Naver ranked third as the most used app, followed by Instagram, T Map, Netflix, Coupang, Carrot, Naver Cafe, and TikTok Lite.

For those in their 50s, the order of apps they used the longest was YouTube, KakaoTalk, Naver, T Map, Coupang, Instagram, Daum, Netflix, Carrot, and TikTok Lite.

For those over 60, the order of apps they used the longest was YouTube, KakaoTalk, Naver, Daum, TikTok, TikTok Lite, Coupang, T Map, Carrot, and Instagram.

  • 20s: YouTube, Instagram, X, Naver, Naver Webtoon
