‘KPop Demon Hunters’: Sequel Potential and Unresolved Plotlines Explored

Netflix has yet to announce a follow-up to KPop Demon Hunters, which premiered June 20, 2025. However, co-writer and co-leader Maggie Kang hinted at possible sequel plans in a recent interview. Kang said that while the initial plotlines concluded, some threads remain open for exploration.
The decision to create a sequel likely depends on the first film’s reception and performance. KPop Demon Hunters follows Huntrix, a K-pop girl group-Rumi, Mira, and Zoey-who secretly hunt demons by night. Their music powers the Honmoon, a magical shield that traps evil spirits. A rival boy band, the Saja Boys, who are demons in disguise, attempt to steal souls and break the Honmoon.
The initial film concludes wiht Rumi, voiced by Arden Cho, embracing her half-demon heritage to unlock the Golden Han Moon’s full power. After Jinu (Ahn Hyo-seop) sacrifices himself to weaken the demon lord Gwi-Ma (Lee Byung-hun), Rumi imprisons him. Together, Huntrix defeats the demons and restores the Honmoon Shield. However, the ending leaves several unresolved storylines, suggesting a possible sequel.
For example, two saja Boys members, Romance (Joel Kim Booster) and Baby, disappear without clarification. Baby may have returned to Earth before the shield was sealed. Additionally, Rumi’s past remains largely a mystery. Her mother, a Hunter, died when Rumi was young, but her demon father’s identity is unknown. Director Maggie Kang told Forbes that the characters in KPop Demon Hunters were inspired by real K-pop groups. Huntrix’s style drew from BLACKPINK, TWICE, and ITZY, while the Saja Boys were inspired by BTS, TXT, and Stray Kids.
“there are always side stories,and there are things we’ve thought of while making this one. There are a lot of questions that are answered,but not fully. I think there are a lot of pockets that we can explore,” Kang said.
