KRAFTON and developer James Bendon have released the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Dinkum, a survival life simulation game, alongside the “Animal Tracks” update. The new edition is available as a free upgrade for players who already own the original Nintendo Switch version of the game.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition features several graphical improvements over the original Switch version, including enhanced shader quality for better surface sheen and material detail, increased texture resolution for more realistic surfaces, and higher shadow resolution with shadows always active. SSAO (Ambient Occlusion) is now applied, and depth of field (DOF) is enabled by default. The update also increases the number of supported light sources, resolving a flickering light issue present on the original Switch that prevented all light sources from displaying correctly.
Exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition are new graphics options accessible through the settings menu and support for Nintendo Switch 2 GameChat, allowing players to communicate during gameplay using the console’s built-in voice chat functionality.
Alongside the Switch 2 Edition release, the “Animal Tracks” update introduces a range of new content and features to Dinkum. Players can now engage in an animal breeding system by obtaining the new Animal Breeding Licence, enabling them to raise offspring and manage livestock across generations. The update adds two new farm animals — the Rooster and Penguin — and introduces new wild creatures such as the Vombull, Plunk, and Boaricoot for players to discover and tame.
A new mount, the Train, has been added to the game, allowing players to build customizable railway systems. Crafted through the NPC Franklyn, the Train supports the construction of tracks, bridges, and routes, with options to connect straight and curved tracks or install bridges across terrain. The Conductor Set outfit is also available as a cosmetic addition for players who wish to customize their character’s appearance while using the mount.
Quality-of-life improvements in the update include the Auto Placer, which automatically feeds materials into nearby crafting or processing devices like the BBQ or Furnace. New resources such as Native Bread and Earth Worms have been added, expanding crafting and daily activity options.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Dinkum and the “Animal Tracks” update were released on April 22, 2026, and are available via the Nintendo eShop. The update is also being released for PC players, with the “Great Bite” update now available on that platform.
