Krafton Bets Big on AI, Announces Major restructuring
Krafton, the publisher behind popular games like PUBG: Battlegrounds, is aggressively shifting its focus to artificial intelligence (AI), declaring itself an ”AI-first company.” The company plans to prioritize AI as a core problem-solving tool, aiming to boost productivity and long-term growth.
According to a company statement (machine translated from Korean), Krafton will undergo a “complete” reorganization and invest ₩100 billion (approximately $69.7 million USD) in a new Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) cluster. This cluster will be used for “sophisticated reasoning and iterative planning,” supporting advanced AI applications.
Workforce Retraining and Automation
Along with the hardware investment, Krafton is allocating ₩30 billion (approximately $20.8 million USD) to retrain its employees in utilizing AI tools. The company intends to automate tasks centered around “Agentic AI” and implement an AI-centered management system.
”Starting today, Krafton will automate work centred on Agentic AI and fully implement an AI-centred management system where members focus on creative activities and complex problem solving,” said Krafton CEO Kim Chang-han. He added that the company aims to foster employee growth and expand its areas of challenge through AI.
Contrast with Microsoft’s Approach
Krafton’s proactive embrace of AI contrasts with microsoft Gaming’s current strategy. Earlier today, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer stated that the company’s AI use is currently focused on security and Xbox Live moderation, with no requirement for its application in the creative process.
