Kreider Traded to Ducks as Rangers Rebuild

Updated June 12, 2025

Chris Kreider’s tenure with the New York Rangers has ended. The veteran winger is joining the Anaheim Ducks after waiving⁣ his no-trade clause, paving the‌ way for the Rangers⁣ to ‌trade him, both teams announced‌ Thursday. The⁢ move gives the Ducks ⁣a proven scorer and⁢ the Rangers needed cap adaptability.

In return, the Rangers recieve prospect Carey⁢ Terrance and a third-round draft pick originally belonging to the Toronto maple Leafs.Anaheim ‍also gets back a fourth-round ⁢pick previously sent to New York in ⁣the Jacob Trouba trade⁣ last⁤ December.

Kreider,34,spent his entire⁤ 13-year NHL career with the Rangers after being drafted in the first round⁣ in 2009. He holds the franchise record for playoff goals, ‍power-play goals, and game-winning goals, amassing 326⁢ goals and⁢ 582 points in 883 regular-season ⁤games.

Ducks General manager Pat Verbeek lauded Kreider’s attributes. “Chris Kreider is the type of player we were looking to add this offseason,” Verbeek said. “He‍ has size, speed and is a clutch performer ⁢that elevates his game ‍in big moments. Chris‌ also upgrades both ⁢of our special teams units, something we really needed to address.”

The Ducks will assume ⁣the remaining two years of kreider’s $6.5 million annual contract.‌ For the ⁣Rangers, the trade frees ‍up cap space‌ as they head into free agency July ‌1. General Manager Chris ‍Drury has been actively reshaping the⁢ roster after the team ‌missed ⁤the playoffs, a⁣ process ⁣that began with the‌ earlier trade of Trouba.

Drury acknowledged‌ Kreider’s contributions to the organization. “We want to ⁤thank Chris Kreider for all of his contributions to the Rangers ‍organization over his stellar career,” Drury said. “Chris has been an integral part of some of‍ the most iconic moments in rangers history… ⁤Chris will always be a Ranger and we wish him and his family all the best.”

Terrance,20,a second-round pick ⁢by Anaheim in 2023,tallied 20 goals and 19 assists as captain of ⁢the Erie⁢ Otters in the OHL this past season. He also won‌ consecutive world junior‍ championship gold medals with ⁤Team USA in 2024 and 2025. The young center addresses a key ⁤organizational need for⁤ the ⁤Rangers.

What’s⁤ next

The Ducks, under coach joel Quenneville, aim⁣ to ⁣return to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. The Rangers, meanwhile, are⁤ expected to remain active in the‍ trade market and free agency as they continue their ‍roster overhaul.
