Krejčíková Cruises into US Open third Round,Faces Familiar Foe
New York,NY – Barbora Krejčíková,the 29-year-old Czech star,is making a statement at the US Open, advancing to the third round with a dominant 6-4,6-2 victory over Japanese player Moyuka Uchijima.Krejčíková,a Grand Slam champion in singles adn a force in doubles, needed just an hour and fifteen minutes to dispatch Uchijima, showcasing the solid form she’s been building throughout the tournament.
Krejčíková’s path to the third round hasn’t been easy, facing a diverse range of opponents. In the first round, she overcame Canadian sensation Victoria Mboko. Uchijima, who entered the tournament on a ten-match losing streak, proved no match for the Czech’s consistent play.”I approached both matches with the same focus,” Krejčíková said after her win. “I was able to capitalize on key moments and maintain a positive ratio of winners to unforced errors.” The statistics back up her assessment: Krejčíková converted four of six break points, while seizing five of nine opportunities to break Uchijima’s serve.
While there were minor hiccups – Krejčíková briefly lost her lead in the first set and saw Uchijima close the gap in the second – she quickly regained control, answering the second set challenge with a dominant run of 12 consecutive points.
This strong showing in New York marks a turning point for Krejčíková, who struggled with form and fitness earlier in the season. Her performance echoes her notable run to the last eight at the Cincinnati Open, suggesting she’s peaking at the right time.
Interestingly, Krejčíková’s journey at the US Open began with qualifying rounds in her first five appearances. This is only the second time she’s reached the main draw and advanced to the third round, mirroring her quarterfinal run in her 2021 debut.
Looking ahead, Krejčíková is set for a compelling third-round clash against american Emma Navarro. This will be their second Grand Slam encounter this year, following Krejčíková’s three-set victory over Navarro at Wimbledon, where she was the defending champion. The match promises to be a thrilling contest, with both players vying for a spot in the fourth round.
Meanwhile, fellow Czech players Tereza Valentová has also reached the second round, and Markéta Vondroušová is scheduled to play her second-round match on Wednesday, adding to the Czech Republic’s strong presence at this year’s US Open.
