U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was admitted to a Washington, D.C. hospital Tuesday after experiencing an allergic reaction,according to DHS officials.The 53-year-old cabinet member was transported as a precaution and is currently alert and recovering, confirmed DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
Reporters observed Secret Service agents at the emergency room entrance where Noem was admitted.
Noem’s appointment to lead the DHS came shortly after Donald Trump secured a second presidential term. The Senate confirmed her in late January, following her career as South Dakota’s governor and representative in Congress.
