A Tattooed Commitment: Ditching Gold Rings for Lasting Ink
In a departure from tradition, D. Kubilius and Laura Paukubilienė chose to forgo traditional gold wedding rings. Rather, they opted for a more permanent symbol of their commitment: matching tattoos on their ring fingers.
“There will be no gold rings. We immortalize them in the skin. I think the tattooed rings are much more strong than gold,” Kubilius explained, highlighting their desire for a lasting and deeply personal representation of their union. This decision underscores the couple’s modern outlook and willingness to embrace unconventional expressions of love. The tattoos were applied approximately a month before the wedding, signifying a commitment already etched in stone – or, in this case, skin.
Blending Families and Finding Common Ground
The path to the wedding wasn’t without its challenges. The couple, both parents from previous relationships, navigated the complexities of blending families and finding common ground. One unexpected hurdle was deciding on a shared surname.
“When telling about the planning for the wedding, the young man was surprised to find that the moast difficult thing was to find a compromise when choosing a surname that would introduce himself after the marriage,” the article reports. Ultimately, they settled on Laura Paukubilienė, a decision that signifies a new chapter for both.
Crucially, the couple received enthusiastic support from their children. Their sons from previous relationships were happy for them, and their eight-year-old daughter, Matilda, was notably excited about the celebrations.
“We decided not to do a big bomb from the wedding. Our older children, my sons and Dominyk’s first relationship, said they had nothing against and [were] happy,” shared Laura. This familial harmony was a central element of their wedding vision.
A Celebration of community in Vilnius’ Old Town
The wedding itself was a vibrant gathering of 150 close friends and family. The couple intentionally chose a location that would accommodate their large guest list while maintaining an intimate atmosphere.
“The number is non-poultry, but we wanted everyone who was close to us in our lives,” Laura explained. The ceremony took place not inside Vilnius Town Hall, but near it, on the street, allowing more guests to witness the event safely and enjoy the historic surroundings.
The couple’s strong network of friends played a significant role in bringing their vision to life. From the photographer and videographer to the restaurant owner and musical performers, many of the wedding vendors were personal friends offering their services as a gesture of support. Christopher Baublys, owner of the restaurant, and a friend, contributed to the event. The musical entertainment included a string quartet led by Laura’s sister, who traveled from Austria, alongside another musical group comprised of friends. The decision to marry in Vilnius’ Old Town was a natural one, reflecting the couple’s affection for the city’s historic charm. the location provided a beautiful and meaningful backdrop for their commitment ceremony, solidifying their connection to both each other and their community.
