Kuwait: Decree revoking citizenship of singer Nawal and artist Daoud Hussain
A Kuwaiti decree revoked the citizenship of artist Daoud Hussein and singer Nawal al-Kuwaiti. This decision was reported by Al-Qabas, a Kuwaiti newspaper.
The decree, published in the Kuwait Official Gazette, also affects others who gained citizenship through dependency. The Supreme Committee of Nationality Investigation reviewed 1,758 cases in a recent meeting and decided to present these cases to Kuwait’s Council of Ministers.
Additionally, Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued an Emiri Decree concerning foreign residency laws. This decree updates provisions from the Residence Law of Foreigners, established over 60 years ago. It addresses issues and gaps that have arisen in the law’s application.
The first chapter of the new decree outlines the rules for foreign entry into Kuwait. It mandates that foreigners must carry a valid passport or substitute when entering or exiting the country. Citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council countries can use personal cards for entry and exit, as defined in agreements with their nations.
