Kuwait Committee Focuses on Disability Rights Role

Kuwait’s Supreme National Committee, tasked with implementing teh rights of persons with disabilities, is set to coordinate national efforts to bolster these rights across various sectors. Dr. Proverbs Al-Hawila, Minister of Social Affairs, Family adn Childhood Affairs and chairman of the committee, confirmed the initiative.
The committee,comprising representatives from 12 government agencies,held its inaugural meeting recently. This marked the beginning of its work under Ministerial Resolution (126/2025), which aims to create a thorough national road map for disability rights. The committee will serve as the primary driver for coordinating national efforts and fulfilling Kuwait’s obligations under international agreements, including the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Declaration of Oman – Berlin.
The meeting addressed the working mechanism for the upcoming phase. The committee will monitor the implementation of the agreement’s provisions, establish executive plans, assess performance, and propose national policy and program developments. Member agencies include the ministries of foreign affairs, health, social affairs, finance, education, and higher education, along with the Kuwait Municipality, the General Organization for Housing Welfare, the General Authority for Persons with Disabilities, the General Authority for Applied Education and Training, the Civil Service Bureau, the General Authority of Workforce, the Ministry of Details, and the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.
Al-Hawila stated the committee is committed to working collaboratively to integrate efforts, overcome challenges, and enhance the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of life, enabling them to be active participants in national growth.The focus on the committee’s role in enhancing disability rights is a key priority.
