Kuwaiti Federation Takes Strong Action After Chaotic Match Against Iraq

The Kuwaiti federation has issued several strong decisions following a chaotic match against Iraq in the final Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. The match, which ended in a goalless draw, was marred by harassment of Kuwaiti fans and overcrowding at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium.

The Kuwaiti Federation has expressed its gratitude to the loyal fans who showed their support for the national team, despite the obstacles they faced. However, the federation has also apologized for the hindrances and has taken swift action to address the issues.

Investigation and Disciplinary Action

The Kuwaiti Federation has set up a committee of inquiry to investigate the procedures that led to the chaotic events. The secretary-general of the federation has been dismissed and referred to an investigation committee, while the director of public relations and media has been suspended pending investigation.

The federation has also confirmed that it will take all necessary legal measures against those who were negligent and caused the unfortunate incident, which it described as “unacceptable”.

The Iraqi national team played with ten players from the seventh minute after their player, Rabin Sulaga, received a red card and was sent off early. Despite this, Iraq managed to hold on for a draw, taking their tally to four points in the group.

Kuwait, on the other hand, earned their second draw in the group, following a 1-1 draw with Jordan in their opening match.
