Protecting Our Precious Arabian Gulf: A Call to Action
Kuwait City – July 30,2025 – The Kuwait Municipality has issued a strong appeal to the public, urging collective support for government initiatives aimed at protecting the nation’s vital marine environment. The focus is on combating illegal fishing practices and preventing the discharge of waste that poses a notable threat to marine life and the overall health of the Arabian Gulf.
The Growing Threat of Marine Pollution
Mohamed Al-Sindan, Director of the Public Relations Department and official spokesperson for the Kuwait Municipality, highlighted the escalating damage caused by waste entering our waters. “The waste we see on our beaches and that seeps into the marine environment is directly threatening fish populations within the Arabian Gulf,” Al-Sindan stated in a recent press release. He emphasized that this pollution inflicts severe damage on marine ecosystems, impacting everything from fish congregations to the delicate coral reefs on the seabed, thereby endangering numerous marine species.
Al-Sindan acknowledged the continuous efforts of the Kuwait Municipality’s cleaning teams who work diligently to maintain the cleanliness of Kuwait’s beaches and marine islands. However, he pointed out a concerning trend: an increase in waste attributed to a growing number of visitors and fishermen. “Unluckily, some visitors are not fully aware of the real danger their actions pose, leaving waste on beaches or discarding it into the sea,” he explained. This highlights a critical need for greater public awareness and a sense of shared responsibility for preserving our natural heritage.
Preserving Coral Reefs and Fish Stocks for future Generations
The Municipality is also stressing the paramount importance of collaboration among various stakeholders to protect coral reefs, which are described as a national treasure and a crucial natural resource. Ensuring a healthy environment for fish and diverse marine creatures is a key objective.
Moreover,Al-Sindan underscored the necessity of developing a lasting system to manage fishing resources effectively. The establishment of marine protected areas is also a priority, aimed at boosting fish populations and strengthening the overall marine ecosystem. By working together, Kuwait can ensure the long-term health and vitality of its marine environment for generations to come.
